Capital One ShareBuilder Offers Mini Options Trading For Individual Investors
Options Trades Up 30 percent in Second Quarter of 2013
SEATTLE, Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Capital One ShareBuilder today announced the availability of mini options contracts for qualified retail investor customers.
With mini options, investors can trade one-tenth of a standard options contract – or 10 shares per contract versus the standard contract of 100 shares – while still having access to the same strikes and expirations. Mini-options are currently available for Amazon Inc., Apple Inc., Google Inc., SPDR Gold Trust, and the S&P 500 Index ETF.
"Options investing1 involves risk and is not suitable for everyone, but can be an effective way to protect your portfolio and mitigate losses in today's volatile markets," said Dan Greenshields, President of Capital One ShareBuilder. "Mini options make this increasingly popular investing strategy more accessible on certain high-priced securities by offering the ability to trade smaller contract sizes with lower initial investments. We look forward to educating our customers on this new offering, and helping enable them to be more successful investors for the long-term."
ShareBuilder saw a significant increase in options trading during the second quarter of 2013 – with 30 percent more options trades placed compared to the first quarter. Earlier this year, ShareBuilder introduced a new reduced, flat commission structure for online trades, available to all customers regardless of account size and trading activity level. Customers now pay $6.952 in base commission for online stock and ETF trades, and $6.95 plus $0.75 per contract for options trades.
