AUSTIN, Texas, June 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of their five year-long partnership, car2go N.A. LLC, the market leader for one-way carsharing in North America, and the LIVESTRONG Foundation today announced the kick-off of #DriveTheFight, a new week-long campaign that will help support LIVESTRONG's programs that aim to improve the lives of people affected by cancer now.
Beginning today, car2go members in the U.S. and Canada will be encouraged via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and the car2go smartphone app to tweet the hashtag #DriveTheFight. Each time a car2go member uses a car2go and tweets the hashtag #DriveTheFight, car2go will donate $1 per mile driven until June 7, National Cancer Survivors Day®.
"Every day of a person's life is precious – and that's why we've teamed up with LIVESTRONG to not only celebrate the strength and courage of the survivors we all may know, but to see how we can support those who are still fighting cancer every single day," said Paul DeLong, President and CEO of car2go N.A. "Carsharing naturally encourages people to contribute to a greater good – from an economic to environmental and social perspective, and with this new initiative, in partnership with LIVESTRONG, our members and their communities, we know that car2go can make a difference."
With 32.5 million cancer survivors worldwide, organizations like the LIVESTRONG Foundation are needed now more than ever. The Foundation provides free support for the practical, emotional and physical needs experienced in any stage of the cancer journey by patients, survivors, families, friends and caregivers. Last year alone, the Foundation saved its clients more than $6 million in cancer-related expenses through its various programs and partnerships and has served more than 3 million people since 1997.
"With great advances in cancer treatment options and medicines, more and more people are surviving the disease, thus increasing the need for post-treatment care. Cancer may leave your body, but it will forever remain in your life," said Chandini Portteus, LIVESTRONG Foundation President and CEO. "We at the Foundation remain endlessly committed to meeting those needs and are thankful to have partners like car2go that understand what it means to be a survivor today."
