CARB Extends, Modifies Johnson Matthey's AdvCCRT(TM) Verification, Boosting Level 3+ PM Reduction Flexibility
AUDUBON, Pa., Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has extended and modified its verification of Johnson Matthey's AdvCCRT™ system, a ruling that will provide even greater flexibility to end users requiring Level 3+ PM reduction.
Initially verified for a duty cycle requiring 230 degree C for 40 percent of the cycle, the latest extension now allows for not only the original temperature profile, but also adds a second optional duty cycle allowing use for applications that meet 300 degree C for 10 percent of the duty cycle.

The AdvCCRT system is Johnson Matthey's second generation CCRT® heavy-duty diesel retrofit system optimized for more challenging applications. The system with that advanced catalyst optimization requires no supplemental heat source and is verified to reduce PM by more than 90 percent for 2002-2006 2.5g NOx EGR and non- EGR engines. It also meets the stringent NO2 slip requirements of CARB and the EPA, which also verified AdvCCRT technology.
The AdvCCRT system incorporates a unique two-stage filter arrangement. The first stage duplicates Johnson Matthey's patented CCRT® filter's pre-catalyst and coated filter with proprietary catalyst formulations to reduce PM. The second stage reduces excess NO2 with the injection of a tiny amount of hydrocarbon across a decomposition catalyst that converts NO2 back into NO. Other systems reduce NO2 in the filter limiting their ability to reduce PM in all applications.
