Carnival Cruise Lines Celebrates the Introduction of Two Year-Round Ships From New Orleans With Ceremony on Nov. 14

MIAMI, Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate the launch of two year-round cruise ships from New Orleans, Carnival Cruise Lines held a special VIP ceremony earlier today aboard the Carnival Elation at the Port of New Orleans.   During the event, the line made a $25,000 donation to Reconcile New Orleans, which operates Cafe Reconcile as part of a job-training program that prepares adolescents for hospitality industry careers through training and work experience.

Both the 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation and the 2,974-passenger Carnival Conquest were recently repositioned to the Port of New Orleans to operate year-round departures, returning Carnival's presence in the city to pre-Katrina capacity levels. The line expects to carry nearly 340,000 passengers annually from New Orleans — more than any other cruise operator.

To date, Reconcile New Orleans' Workforce Development Program has graduated more than 700 youths ages 16 to 22. Students leave the 12-week program with work skills, along with basic life and interpersonal skills, enabling and empowering them to successfully enter the workforce.

Carnival Conquest and Carnival Elation will operate more than 125 voyages annually from the Port of New Orleans, offering an unprecedented array of cruise lengths, departure days and itineraries.

Seven-Day Western Caribbean Cruises from New Orleans

Carnival Conquest will offer three different week-long Caribbean itineraries from New Orleans. A new western Caribbean program features calls at Montego Bay, Jamaica; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, and Cozumel, Mexico, while an eastern Caribbean itinerary sails to Key West, Fla., and Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas. The third week-long option includes calls at Belize; Mahogany Bay, Roatan; and Cozumel.  

Carnival Conquest features dramatic interiors inspired by artists from the Impressionist period, along with a 14,500-square-foot health and wellness facility, four restaurants, including a classic American-style steakhouse, 22 lounges and bars, and expansive play areas for children in three age groups.  The ship also has four swimming pools, including one with a 214-foot-long water slide. Nearly 60 percent of the ship's 1,487 staterooms offer an ocean view or balcony.

Four- and Five-Day Cruises Aboard Carnival Elation

Carnival Elation offers four-day cruises departing Thursdays and calling in Cozumel, while five-day voyages departing Mondays and Saturdays visit Cozumel and Progreso, Mexico.

Carnival Elation features three restaurants, 12 lounges and bars, an adults-only Serenity deck area, a 300-foot-long Twister Water Slide and resort-style main pool area.
