Popularity of the Carolinas Attracts Baby Boomers in Retirement
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Del Webb is planning its second community south of Charlotte, Carolina Orchards by Del Webb in Fort Mill, South Carolina, which will feature 722 single-family homes on more than 325 acres of land. The community is expected to grand open in spring 2016.

Planned amenities at Carolina Orchards will feature a clubhouse, pool, sports courts for pickleball and tennis, outdoor pavilion, garden plots, and dog park.
Carolina Orchards will be located just off I-77 and Gold Hill Road/Springfield Parkway in the historic Town of Fort Mill, just 12 miles south of Uptown Charlotte, and three miles south of the North Carolina state line. The community is easily accessible to South Charlotte amenities and employment centers, the airport, and an existing Carolina healthcare Medical Center. Carolina Orchards is also within walking distance of the Springfield Golf Club and the Anne Springs Close Greenway and Recreation Complexes.
Shopping and neighborhood service centers are plentiful in the Fort Mill area and most can be reached in a 5-10 minute drive from the community. Just a short drive from the community is a new retail and office center, Springfield Town Center, which features an upscale Harris Teeter supermarket and expansion plans to include a drugstore and additional retail components.
A site grand opening with completed designer-decorated models and sales pavilion is planned for spring 2016.
Carolinas: a booming retirement destination
Sun City Carolina Lakes in Lancaster County, South Carolina is the first Del Webb community near Charlotte and considered one of the most successful Del Webb communities in the country. The 3,100-unit community grand opened in 2006 and has delivered market leading sales results. It is expected to be sold-out by the end of 2015.
According to Cherry, the Carolinas remain a preferred retirement and pre-retirement destination for those age 55 and older. "More than 40 percent of the buyers in Sun City Carolina Lakes were from the Carolina states while more than 50 percent were from out of state. We fully expect this out-of-state appeal to continue for Carolina Orchards. In addition, half of the buyers are still working, but want to begin the Del Webb lifestyle while preparing to retire."
