Cascades' 2014 Sustainable Supplier Award: Hewitt Equipment Limited and BASF Canada Earn Top Honours
KINGSEY FALLS, QC, Feb. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ - Cascades (TSX: CAS), a leader in the recovery and manufacturing of environmentally friendly packaging and tissue paper products, is pleased to announce this year's winners of the Sustainable Supplier Award: Hewitt Equipment Limited and BASF Canada, who share the honours for 2014!
The annual contest aims to recognize suppliers who shine for their responsible business practices, and who have had a positive impact on Cascades' sustainable development objectives. The awards ceremony took place today in Montréal, with the Company's senior management and North American plant managers in attendance.

| Hewitt Equipment Limited is assisting Cascades in reducing, electrifying and optimizing its fleet of forklifts. The project stands out for its remarkable integration of the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development.
The new forklifts allow Cascades not only to reduce its ecological footprint through the use of clean energy, but also to ensure the health and safety of Cascaders with advanced features that prevent risks in the workplace.
The Hewitt project also led to gains in terms of time and productivity that translate into significant savings, in addition to a reduction in energy costs.
Hewitt shows a strong commitment to incorporating sustainable development into its own practices, as seen by its actions to make the well-being, health and safety of its employees a top priority. Its newly constructed branches in Candiac and Wabush are sustainable buildings, the most recent of which is LEED-certified.

BASF Canada lent its expertise to the development of a water-based barrier as an alternative to polyethylene (PE), allowing Cascades to market an innovative and eco-friendly product in 2014.
The new product, an alternative packaging solution that is compostable and entirely recyclable, earned a coveted Envirolys award in the Innovation and Environmental Protection category shortly after its launch.
In addition, the new water-based barrier eliminates the cardboard conversion step, thus optimizing manufacturing logistics and generating cost savings.
In keeping with its commitment to sustainable development, BASF applies the principles of the Responsible Care® program, a global, voluntary initiative launched in 1985 by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada.
