Cascades is shortlisted three times for the 2011 PPI Awards

KINGSEY FALLS, QC, Oct. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - Cascades has, once again this year, achieved industry recognition with three nominations from the Pulp & Paper International (PPI) Awards 2011, the only international awards dedicated to recognizing companies in the pulp and paper industry. Cascades is twice shortlisted in the "Innovative Product of the Year" category, having impressed the judges with two of the company's most recent products: Rolland Enviro100 Satin fine paper and Cascades Moka™ unbleached bathroom tissue. In addition, Emmanuel Boullay of Cascades Sonoco was chosen as a finalist for the "Mill Manager of the Year" award. The winners will be announced and trophies handed out at the PPI Awards Ceremony in Brussels, Belgium, on November 15, 2011.

Cascades is proud to see two of its products as finalists for the "Innovative Product of the Year Award", given that the company puts considerable time and effort into developing environmentally-favorable new products. "Last year, we were finalists for two major PPI Awards, including Innovative Product of the Year for our antibacterial hand-wipes. It's enormously satisfying to see that we are being recognized once again this year by the PPI for three awards, emphasizing our commitment to leadership and innovation," said Mario Plourde, President and COO of Cascades.

-	Rolland Enviro100 Satin, made with 100% post-consumer fiber, offers all the ecological benefits of an uncoated paper along with the power to print dazzling and colorful visuals, comparable to a matte-coated paper. The judges were impressed with the paper's ability to stand out from the competition in the crowded commodity paper category. It is the only "hybrid" paper on the market with a satin finish that is FSC, EcoLogo and Processed Chlorine Free certified and manufactured using local and renewable biogas energy.
-	Cascades' Moka bathroom tissue is made from 100% unbleached recycled fiber, 80% of which is post-consumer fiber and 20% is recovered corrugated boxes. A life cycle assessment has confirmed that the environmental impact of the new pulp mix has been reduced by 25% compared to the one used in Cascades greenest white bathroom tissue, also made from 100% recycled fiber whitened without chlorine.
-	Finally, the nomination of Emmanuel Boullay of Cascades Sonoco in Birmingham, Alabama, for "Mill Manager of the Year", is one that clearly demonstrates Cascades' leadership and management skills. The company joins the PPI in recognizing Boullay's dedication and success, both in inspiring his team to success, and in implementing profitable projects, such as a zero-waste mill.
