Catch New York Named Marketing AOR for Quiksilver Pro New York
Agency helps Quiksilver bring international surfing competition to New York for first time
NEW YORK, Aug. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Catch New York (www.catch-nyc.com), the young, integrated advertising and marketing agency, has been named marketing agency of record for the Quiksilver Pro New York (www.quiksilverpro.com) as the world's leading action sports lifestyle company seeks to bring professional Surfing's elite athletes to the East Coast for a sanctioned tour contest. The event, which takes place from September 4-15, marks the first time the official ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) tour has held a competition in New York.
In addition, Catch is handling several coordinated initiatives for the company's leadership brands Quiksilver and Roxy in support of the surf contest including skate demos, art and fashion exhibits which will run concurrently with the Quiksilver Pro New York surf contest.
In their role as marketing agency of record, Catch's services include creating integrated marketing campaigns, broadcast and promotional partnerships, media planning and buying, outdoor, digital, social media, product placement, guerilla marketing and government relations.
The agency recently brokered a strategic partnership between Quiksilver and Madison Square Garden's MSG Network and FUSE Music Network for the event. MSG and FUSE will broadcast daily coverage of the surf event competition, produced by Quiksilver. And MSG will cover the quarter, semi and final portions of the contest - live - from Long Beach. This marks the first time a surfing competition is being aired on live television in New York.
Spots promoting the event have been running on MSG throughout August and will continue through the event's completion on September 15. Quiksilver will 'take over' MSG and FUSE's marquees on 7th Avenue for 10 days leading up to and during the surf contest.
Catch has also forged a partnership with the Long Island Rail Road to create special packages to encourage patrons to use mass transit to get to the surf event. The LIRR has been promoting the event to its regular commuters on its lines and at Penn Station. Catch has also helped support Quiksilver's sponsorship efforts and is part of the group working with the City of Long Beach to help coordinate the complex event.
"Catch's relationships and connections in sports, broadcasting and city government have been crucial to Quiksilver's efforts to establish the foundation for bringing the Quiksilver Pro to New York and Long Island. Their expertise in navigating the New York market as well as their enthusiasm and dedication to ensuring a first-class event has been outstanding," said Mike Matey, Vice President, Marketing for Quiksilver, Inc.
"Everyone at Catch is proud to have been chosen by Quiksilver for this complex project. It is an honor to work with such legendary brands as Quiksilver and Roxy to create an event that will attract passionate surfers and action sports fans throughout the region and viewers around the world. We look forward to being a long-term partner to a true action sports and marketing pioneer," said Doug Spitzer, co-founder and chief creative officer of Catch New York.
The Quiksilver Pro New York surf contest will take place in Long Beach, New York from September 4-15. It is the sixth stop on the ASP 2011 World Tour and the first-ever stop on the East Coast of the United States. The world's best surfers will compete for a $1 million dollar prize purse, an amount unprecedented in professional surfing.
As part of the events, Quiksilver and Roxy will also host a world-class roster of athletes in New York City during early September for a series of demos, films, parties and art exhibits that represent the best of surf, skate and snowboarding cultures.
