Caterers And Event Planners See Growth In 2014

COLUMBIA, Md., May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Caterers and event planners are seeing robust growth so far in 2014, according to a survey conducted by the National Association for Catering and Events.

Nearly half of the respondents said that overall revenues were better or significantly better at this point in the year, compared to the same time period in 2013. And, more than half said that they were booking more events so far than in 2013.

Corporate events are showing the most growth, with 58.7 reporting that this year is performing better or significantly better in 2014. This compares to 42.4 who indicated that same level of growth for weddings, and 43.9 percent who indicated the same level of growth for other types of social events.

And corporate events was seen as having the greatest potential for growth for the rest of the year, according to 52.5 percent of the respondents, compared to 32.8 who cited weddings and 14.8 who cited other types of social events.

"We are hearing anecdotally, and now quantifiably here in our survey, that this will be a record year for many in the catering and event industry," said Bonnie Fedchock, CAE executive director of the National Association for Catering and Events. "We think that this is a mini-barometer of the overall economy and we are optimistic for a complete turnaround in our industry."
