Celebrating National Financial Literacy Month
Showdown at Cash Canyon Visits St. Paul and Minneapolis Schools
MINNEAPOLIS, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- To help celebrate the April 2012 National Financial Literacy Month in the Twin Cities, NTC is using its unique style of multi-platform communication to teach important financial literacy concepts to elementary school students. Sponsored, in part, by Wings Financial Federal Credit Union, the show will play in 40 elementary schools in the Twin Cities. The Showdown at Cash Canyon financial literacy program features live, professional theatre performances, print curriculum and Internet activities for the students. Educators also receive teacher guides to help integrate the curriculum into their lesson plans and classroom posters that reinforce the key educational points from the live show.
"We're really excited about bringing this program to elementary school students throughout the Twin Cities," says John Wagner, Vice President/Marketing at Wings Financial FCU. "The program fits right into our Foundation's mission of delivering good financial literacy education. It also helps get our name out into the community." Mr. Wagner has been with Wings Financial since June 2001. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of marketing programs and promotions as well as advertising, public relations and market research.
The tour will return to Minneapolis/St. Paul schools in April 2013 and beyond. "We want this to become a yearly event in our cities," says Ward Eames, Founder and President of NTC. "We've designed the tour as a co-op program that will allow four, non-competing organizations to share its sponsorship. That's a great opportunity for any organization that's interested in demonstrating their good corporate citizenship throughout their community."
In Showdown at Cash Canyon, students learn about money, how it's used and ways that they can develop a savings habit. Two professional actors play a variety of characters and create a fun, entertaining and educational world that emotionally engages students with its message during the 25-minute live portion of the program. The print curriculum and Internet activities are available for teachers to use in preparation for the live show or can incorporated into lesson plans throughout the school year.
