Upcoming 2010 Census

WASHINGTON, May 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following tip sheet was released today by the U.S. Census Bureau:

2010 Census Coverage Measurement Results — The Census Bureau will brief the media on the release of 2010 Census Coverage Measurement results at a news conference at George Washington University. These results provide one way of analyzing the quality of the 2010 Census counts and provide estimates of coverage of the census for the nation, major demographic groups, by key census operations and for states, large counties and places. There will be estimates of the components of census coverage, including erroneous enumerations and omissions. The briefing will include a media question-and-answer session. Following the news conference, there will be a technical briefing about coverage measurement, which will include Census Bureau staff and other experts in the field. Members of the media are invited to attend. (News conference is scheduled for May 22 at 10 a.m.; the technical briefing is at 1 p.m.)

American Community Survey

2006-2010 American Community Survey Selected Population Tables and American Indian and Alaska Native Tables — These new products use American Community Survey data aggregated over a five-year period to provide estimates of detailed social, economic, and housing characteristics for many race, tribal, Hispanic and ancestry population groups at multiple levels of geography. Detailed tables on topics such as educational attainment, fertility, nativity, citizenship, income, poverty and homeownership are iterated for many racial and ethnic population groups. (Media embargo and webinar May 22 for public release May 24.)

Demographic

State-Level Maps and Graphs on Voting — This is a menu-driven, interactive Web page with graphs showing percentages of adults by states who voted and registered in congressional and presidential elections between 1996 and 2010. In addition to voting and registration trends, there are graphs showing voting and registration by age, sex, educational attainment, and race and Hispanic origin. Some analysis is provided as well, as are thematic maps of states showing percent voting during each election. The statistics come from the Current Population Survey. (Scheduled for release in May.)

Net Worth and Asset Ownership of Households — Statistics on median net worth and the median value of assets (such as equity in own home and stocks and mutual fund shares) for households. The statistics, which pertain to 2005, 2009 and 2010, are shown by characteristics such as race and Hispanic origin, education, age and labor force activity of householders. The information comes from the Survey of Income and Program Participation. (Tentatively scheduled for release late May.)

State and County Housing Unit Estimates: July 1, 2011 — Updated estimates of the nation's housing stock at the national, state and county levels show growth or decline in units since the 2010 Census. (Scheduled for release June 14.) 

Economic

Public Education Finances: 2010 — These tables are a source for revenues, expenditures, debt and assets (cash and security holdings) of elementary and secondary public school systems for the nation, state and school districts. Other tables include per-pupil spending and detailed spending on instruction, special education, school lunches, transportation and salaries. (Scheduled for release in June.)

The report discusses the size and growth of the Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander population and provides analysis of the largest detailed Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander groups. The brief contains tables and figures (including maps) that display regional, state and county patterns. Estimates of National, State and County Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2011 — May 17 — Is the nation getting younger or older? Which states and counties have the oldest residents? Which states and counties have more men than women? How rapidly is the minority population growing nationally and in each state and county? Or is it growing at all? National-, state- and county-level population estimates cross-tabulated by these demographic characteristics provide the answers. These are the first such population estimates the Census Bureau has published since the release of the official 2010 Census counts. The Foreign-Born Population in the United States: 2010 — May 10 — This report, based on 2010 American Community Survey estimates, examines differences in characteristics among foreign-born region-of-birth groups on a wide range of topics that include household, age, sex, marital status, fertility, period of entry into the United States, naturalization and citizenship status, language, education, labor force participation, occupation, health insurance coverage, income and poverty. Shades of Gray: A Cross-Country Study of Health and Well-Being of the Older Populations in SAGE Countries: 2007-2010 — May 7— Examines the health status and access to health care among people 50 and older in six low- to middle-income countries that participated in the Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health (China, Ghana, India, Mexico, Russia and South Africa).
