Channel Surf Safely with Exclusive U-verse KIDS! App

DALLAS, Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Your tech-savvy child will love U-verse KIDS!, a new smartphone and tablet app from AT&T* U-verse^® that displays kid-friendly TV channels and remote controls.

Children can tune the TV directly to programs displayed on the U-verse KIDS! app with easy-to-use remote control buttons. The buttons display TV programs currently airing. Kids can select a TV program and the TV will automatically tune to it. The app also lets kids pause, fast forward or rewind live TV. The app uses colorful icons and easy-to-use buttons. It even "reads" program names aloud using patented AT&T Natural Voices^© text-to-speech technology.

U-verse KIDS! also lets parents set custom parental controls by TV or movie rating and even specify which channels are displayed. Once they are set, the app will only display content that meets the parental controls. If parental controls aren't set, U-verse KIDS! only displays programming TV-14 and below.

U-verse KIDS! is the latest app to use the U-verse Enabled platform. With U-verse Enabled apps, customers easily connect their qualifying smartphone or tablet to their U-verse TV receiver over Wi-Fi.  AT&T U-verse is 100 percent IPTV, so customers with U-verse High Speed Internet can connect their apps to any U-verse receiver in the home through channel 9301, without needing special equipment, such as Internet-connected receivers or TV sets. Customers must subscribe to both U-verse TV and U-verse High-Speed Internet to access U-verse KIDS!.

U-verse KIDS! was developed by researchers at AT&T Labs. It uses the framework of U-verse Easy Remote, an award-winning app that lets customers easily control their TVs with their smartphone or tablet. AT&T developers used the Easy Remote framework to design an app for new and non-readers.
