Chemico Group Honored with Regional Supplier of the Year Award
MMSDC recognizes minority-owned, chemical management company as a leader in supplier excellence
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) honored The Chemico Group (Chemico) with the 2017 Class IV Supplier of the Year Award at its 40th Annual Ambassadors Championing Excellence (ACE) Awards and biennial Chairman's Scholarship Gala held on Friday December 8, 2017. Led by President and CEO Leon C. Richardson, Chemico is a global, minority-owned, chemical management, coatings removal and industrial supply company headquartered in Southfield, MI. The ACE awards is one of the most respected statewide events, boasting an attendance of nearly 850 of the region's top leaders, executives, visionaries and corporations to celebrate the business relationships between major corporations and minority business firms that are making significant contributions toward minority supplier development.
The MMSDC is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization committed to driving economic growth within minority communities, facilitating over $20 billion annually in business contracts between corporations and certified minority business enterprises (MBEs). Richardson has served as the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) Chairman since 2014. In this role, Richardson serves as the liaison between the Council's corporate members and represents the voice of the MBE Community, working with more than 1,200 minority owners in the state. His work in this capacity has advanced the MMSDC's efforts to conduct industry-specific training, identify possible strategic alliances, and foster an environment that promotes MBE-to-MBE spend.

Chemico earned the illustrious award by demonstrating outstanding leadership in diversity and commitment supporting minority-owned businesses through purchasing contracts. The award honors excellence among minority owned businesses who generate more than $50 million in annual revenue and have accomplished outstanding achievements in business growth, operations, and diverse hiring practices, among other things. Chemico has amassed a spend totaling more than $11 million with MBEs in the last few years.
