CHICAGO, Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- All three partners at Cheng Cohen, the franchise industry's premier full service boutique law firm, recently received honors. Amy Cheng and Fredric A. Cohen, founding partners, were included in the 21^st Edition of The Best Lawyers in America for franchise law, released this week, and Michael R. Daigle was inducted as a Fellow of The American Bar Association.

Being included in The Best Lawyers in America annual list is recognition that Amy Cheng and Ric Cohen are among the top franchise lawyers in the world. Since it was first published in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which almost 50,000 leading attorneys cast nearly five million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their practice areas, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor.

Daigle was nominated to join the American Bar Association's elite, honorary organization of legal professionals. The Fellows was established in 1955 and includes lawyers, judges, and legal scholars whose careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession. Only one-third of one percent of lawyers in each state and up to 300 foreign lawyers are invited to join this prestigious group. The Fellows are elected by their peers and support the research work of the American Bar Association.

Cheng concentrates her practice in domestic and international commercial transactions, general corporate, and franchise, licensing and distribution law. She represents franchisors on franchise programs through all phases of development. In addition to frequently moderating and speaking at industry events, she is chair of the 2015 International Franchise Association (IFA) 2015 Legal Symposium and holds leadership positions in numerous other professional organizations.

Cohen is a seasoned litigator and trial lawyer who has represented a wide variety of franchise brands for more than 25 years. With extensive experience in the areas of antitrust, intellectual property, valuation, technology and finance, he represents clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts across the country as well as in alternative dispute resolution forums such as arbitration and mediation. 

Daigle represents franchisors of all sizes and in all stages of development, with a specialty in international expansion. He came to Cheng Cohen after years on the corporate side, negotiating and documenting master franchise, area development, licensing and joint venture transactions in more than 50 countries. For the past two years, he served as co-chair of the International Commercial Transactions, Franchising and Distribution Committee of the ABA Section of International Law.  He has spoken on international franchise matters at ABA conferences in Dublin, Paris, and London, and will speak at the Section of International Law's fall meeting in Buenos Aires in October.
