Aisha Chaudhry Incorporates Mixed Media to Juxtapose Digital Photos with Unexpected Elements

For Chaudhry, every piece in the Alleph Photography Collection begins with the shutter of her Leica T camera's lens. In post-production, the artist adds cosmic, ethereal influences into everyday visuals. The opposing mediums create an unlikely, magnetic connection that causes viewers to do a double take. One of the vital details in her work, says Chaudhry, is the element of surprise — and finding harmony in the unharmonious.
"This collection incorporates my passion for digital mixed media and allows me to integrate my sketches and vision into each piece," says Chaudhry. "Most of my art starts with a basic image that captures something you may see in passing and not give much attention to, such as an alley or a skyline. Once I have the base image, I remix it with different elements to add personality and emotion — something that gives life, and greater context, to a static visual."
Chaudhry, who hails from a marketing and agency background, attributes Instagram and the community of like-minded creatives it offers as a core motivation for bringing her collection to light.
"I have always had a passion for design and art, but I didn't actively start creating until I realized it was an essential part of me in terms of communicating and expressing my emotions," she adds. "With the evolution of technology and platforms like Instagram, I was able to teach myself Photoshop and start creating art that started off as a therapeutic hobby but quickly transformed into a passion as more people started to discover and appreciate my work."
