Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota ranked a top pediatric hospital by U.S. News & World Report
Children's neonatology program ranked in 2015-2016 Best Children's Hospitals
MINNEAPOLIS, June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota has once again been honored by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Children's Hospital, with the neonatology specialty program ranking 42nd among the nation's top 50 programs for 2015-2016. This year marks the seventh time its neonatology program has been included in the rankings.
Children's neonatology program is one of the largest in the U.S., with 171 beds in the Minneapolis and St. Paul hospitals and the special care nursery. The program treats more than 1,900 newborns each year, more than any other program in the Upper Midwest. The Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children's – Minneapolis has the largest neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the state of Minnesota. The NICU and special care nursery are only steps away from where mothers give birth, giving high-risk newborns the best chance at life.
In 2015, Children's is opening two additional Mother Baby Center locations in Coon Rapids, Minn. and St. Paul, Minn. The Coon Rapids location, in partnership with Allina Health at Mercy Hospital, will open in July. The third location, at United Hospital and Children's – St. Paul, also in partnership with Allina Health, will open in two phases, first in fall 2015, followed by an expansion in fall 2016.

The Best Children's Hospitals rankings highlight U.S. News's top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology. Eighty-three hospitals ranked in at least one specialty, based on a combination of clinical data and reputation with pediatric specialists.

U.S. News introduced the Best Children's Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of sick children find the best medical care available. The rankings open the door to an array of detailed information about each hospital's performance.
Most of each hospital's score relied on patient outcomes and care-related resources. U.S. News garnered clinical data from a detailed questionnaire sent to 184 pediatric hospitals. A sixth of the score came from annual surveys of pediatric specialists and subspecialists in each specialty in 2013, 2014 and 2015. They were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, setting aside considerations of location and expense.
