SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Children's Miracle Network Hospitals today shared its deep sadness for the passing of Mick Shannon, a beloved leader, visionary, friend, and one of the original co-founders of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. His legacy will continue to impact children's healthcare for generations to come.
As a co-founder, Mick was instrumental in shaping the foundation of CMN Hospitals more than 40 years ago. In 1982, he created the model that united children's hospitals, media partners, sponsors, and communities to raise funds and awareness for children's healthcare. His bold vision and guiding principles — putting kids first, keeping funds local, and leading with dignity and class — continue to define what CMN Hospitals stands for today.
"Mick was more than a founder — he was the heart of this movement," said Aimee J. Daily, Ph.D., President & CEO of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. "His vision, determination, and compassion created a legacy that has improved children's health across the U.S. and Canada and inspired countless others to join in this cause. We are forever grateful for the foundation he built and the lives he influenced."
Throughout his decades of service, Mick:
- Played a pivotal role in building the organization from its earliest days into a trusted national movement for children's health.
- Helped design and launch innovative fundraising campaigns that inspired millions to give.
- Cultivated partnerships with corporate sponsors, media outlets, and communities that remain the backbone of the organization's fundraising model today.
- Advocated passionately for patients and families, ensuring their stories were always at the heart of the mission.
"My co-founders and I shared a dream more than forty years ago — to help children and families in their most difficult moments," said Marie Osmond, co-founder of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. "Losing co-founder Joe Lake earlier this year and now Mick is heartbreaking. They were both visionaries and dear friends whose faith, creativity, and compassion built something truly enduring. Their legacy will live on in every child whose life is touched by this organization."
The entire Children's Miracle Network Hospitals community is with Mick's family, friends, and the millions of children and families who benefited because of his dedication and leadership.
