CN makes it easier for customers to calculate carbon savings when shipping by rail

The CO2e emission savings identified in CN's pricing tools reflect the reduction in carbon emissions when a shipment moves by rail instead of truck, with the estimated tons saved based on the average shipment lading weight for a single rail car or container.

Reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions are two of the environmental benefits CN offers its customers. Rail has been shown to be up to six times more energy-efficient than heavy trucks, because rail consumes a fraction of the fuel to transport one tonne of freight one kilometre.
