CHICAGO, Oct. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, it was announced that Crain's Chicago Business has named Nick Farina, co-founder and CEO of quantum computing company EeroQ, to its 40 Under 40 list, which honors rising leaders making transformative contributions to their industries and the greater Chicago community.
Since co-founding EeroQ in 2017, Farina has guided the company in developing a highly differentiated approach to quantum computing, using single electrons on superfluid helium to create one of the purest environments in physics for qubit stability. Because this unique architecture can be manufactured in existing commercial semiconductor foundries, EeroQ can scale far more efficiently, using only a fraction of the resources and capital required by most competitors. This advantage positions the company to play a key role in accelerating breakthroughs in medicine, materials science, climate modeling, and other fields poised to be transformed by quantum computing.

Headquartered in a state-of-the-art 10,000-square-foot engineering facility in Humboldt Park, the company has demonstrated the largest CMOS-based scaling architecture in quantum computing and recently published a landmark paper in Physical Review X showing that individual electrons can be trapped and controlled at temperatures more than 100 times higher than conventional systems—a breakthrough that opens a new pathway to practical, scalable quantum processors.
In parallel with its technical progress, EeroQ has also emerged as a prominent voice on the ethics of quantum computing, publishing one of the first papers on responsible development and contributing to global discussions on how this technology should serve society.
Farina, 38, was born in Chicago and raised in Barrington, Illinois. Before entering the quantum field, he founded a successful advertising agency, co-launched multiple technology startups, and advised Fortune 500 companies on emerging technologies. He has also served on the World Economic Forum's first quantum ethics working group, is a founding member of the U.S. Quantum Industry Coalition, and sits on advisory councils for organizations including the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy.
