Coastal Automotive, Dow Automotive Systems Reach Licensing Agreement On Innovative BETAFOAM™ AFI Acoustical Foam Inserts
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Coastal Automotive today announced the company has reached agreement with Dow Automotive Systems, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, to license an innovative engineered acoustical foam technology for use in the automotive industry.
BETAFOAM™ AFI is a sound mitigation product based on a unique polymer foaming technology capable of filling and sealing three-dimensional cavities. The system is comprised of expandable foam components inserted throughout body-in-white cavities such as rocker panels and support pillars.
There are two product designs available. One is a distinctive patented design, similar to a honeycomb shape that allows for full flow of anti-corrosion material, thoroughly coating the interior of the automotive body prior to painting. The other design is a customizable extruded part that can be specified to meet customer needs. Both designs provide superior protection from corrosion over the life of the vehicle.
As the e-coat is baked on, the heat causes BETAFOAM AFI to expand up to 3000 percent of its original size, creating a solid foam component that provides excellent sound absorption within the automotive body.
