CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Thanksgiving is almost upon us, and Compass Group USA, celebrating its 20th anniversary in North America this year, is thrilled to join a beloved Charlotte tradition that is the Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade. As part of the Thanksgiving celebrations, Compass Group, which represents Morrison Healthcare and Crothall, is contributing food provisions for 500 local families.
Bagged stuffing, boxed mashed potatoes, canned green beans, canned yams, fresh rolls and frozen pies will be provided to 500 families to round out their holiday meals. Foodbuy, Compass' procurement division, is working closely with Novant Health and Second Harvest Food Bank of the Metrolina to ensure the Thanksgiving boxes will be delivered in plenty of time for the recipient families to prepare their holiday meals.
"As a foodservice company, whenever possible, we support efforts to fight hunger and malnutrition in the communities we serve," explains Raj Pragasam, chief inclusion officer & senior vice president human resources for Compass Group. "We've been partnering with Second Harvest for over ten years so to be able to collaborate with them, Novant, Center City Partners and other great organizations in Charlotte is a special opportunity."
"Hunger in the Metrolina region is not a myth, it's a reality," said Kay Carter, CEO, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. "We provide meals year round, but having the ability to serve meals during the holiday season is particularly important because it helps families to come together."
Meals are being packaged today at Second Harvest Food Bank and will be distributed early next week.
The Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place at 9:30am on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014. Novant's renewed branding of the parade led to its recognition as one of America's Best Thanksgiving Day Parades. Pragasam joined the Parade committee this year.
