WEST HARTFORD, Conn., Jan. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- SCIO Health Analytics today announced that the fourth chapter of its eBook on behavioral analytics, "Intervenability: Drive Better Outcomes by Enhancing Engagement," is now available for download at: https://goo.gl/udkWHZ

This new eBook chapter delves into the concept of "intervenability." It demonstrates how big data and analytics can be used to predict the likelihood that populations will comply with and complete the interventions assigned to or prescribed for them. The analytics measure the willingness of individuals to become engaged in a program (such as patients actively following a plan of care) as well as their ability to do so. While both must be present to achieve intervenability, willingness focuses on internal factors such as attitudes and motivation, whereas ability measures external factors, such as not remembering to take medications for chronic conditions due to advanced Alzheimer's.

Rather than relying solely on easily available clinical and claims data, the analytics for measuring intervenability require a more detailed, 360-degree view of behaviors and attitudes. The data for this analysis may include socioeconomic and demographic information, the results of behavioral surveys and interviews, and other nontraditional sources. Healthcare organizations can then use this information to create personas that represent specific populations and use predictive models to produce "if-then" scenarios for those personas. The output of those models creates an intervenability score that shows providers, payers, and life sciences organizations which opportunities present the greatest chance for success, enabling them to focus their resources where they will deliver the maximum benefit.

For example, providers can use intervenability scores to identify and address barriers to compliance with plans of care, such as a lack of healthy food choice options in a neighborhood where diabetes is prevalent, or a mailbox that is too small to receive medications from a mail order pharmacy.

Life sciences organizations can use intervenability scores to direct the efforts of their commercial effectiveness teams more precisely while delivering a value-add to their hospital and health system partners. Payers who implement an intervenability framework can identify members who will be most agreeable to certain types of interventions and even do some of the heavy lifting for care management.
