GREENSBORO, N.C., Oct. 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Annie Penn Hospital, The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Wesley Long Hospital earned A's; and Alamance Regional Medical Center earned a B in the fall 2016 Leapfrog rankings. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are letter grades assigned to hospitals nationwide. The marks put Cone Health hospitals among the top hospitals when it comes to preventing and reducing what are known as adverse events.
"While we deliver high-quality care at Cone Health, preventing additional problems is essential," says Cone Health Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Bruce Swords, MD. "Avoiding infections, falls and complications are the hallmarks of a terrific team of medical professionals and of truly exceptional care."
The Leapfrog Group does not rank specialty hospitals, so Behavioral Health Hospital and Women's Hospital were not graded.
"Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "We recognize and appreciate 'A' hospitals' vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe."
Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 publicly available hospital safety measures to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
