STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Employees of Affinion Group, the global leader in customer engagement, donated more than $20,000 to Connecticut Food Bank to help families in need as the holiday season draws near. This is the third year Affinion's employees have raised funds for the food bank, and employee interest and enthusiasm for the cause has grown immensely in that time.
"We started our relationship with the food bank because a few select individuals believed this was an opportunity for the company to make a significant difference in our community," said Jim Daxner, SVP of Affinion Group. "As is often the case with charitable exploits, our teams became more aware of the potential to help local families and enthusiasm grew like wildfire."
Money was raised via a wide array of employee programs, from raffles to win exciting prizes through bingo hosted by company executives, and will be used to help more than a half-million Connecticut residents that are food insecure. Additionally, a number of Affinion's partner companies and vendors contributed to the fundraising effort. In 2011, employees for Affinion raised $2,500. Last year, that number grew to over $11,000.
"This generous donation from the employees of Affinion Group enables Connecticut Food Bank to distribute 48,000 meals to Connecticut families who are struggling with hunger," said Nancy L. Carrington, Connecticut Food Bank's President & CEO. "We thank them for the outpouring of support they are giving at this critical time of year when our member programs are receiving more requests for help than ever before."
Connecticut Food Bank serves more than 650 local emergency food-assistance programs in six of Connecticut's eight counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham. Connecticut Food Bank distributes an average of 36 tons of food every business day.
