Cosmos Provides Connectivity to Help Banks Participate in Swift's Ledger for 24/7 Cross-Border Payments

NEW YORK, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cosmos helps banks and financial institutions connect their core ledger to EVM and Hyperledger Besu environments, such as the one powering Swift's blockchain-based shared ledger, to support use cases like 24/7 cross-border payments.

The Cosmos Tokenization Suite gives banks the infrastructure to stand up their own tokenized deposit ledgers, synchronize them with existing cores, like Fiserv, FIS, Jack Henry, Temenos, and Hogan, and connect them with networks like Swift's ledger, Canton, Partior, Ethereum, Solana, and more. Swift's ledger provides secure messaging and orchestration, while the Cosmos platform gives financial institutions a seamless path to move customer funds across counterparties.

Building on that foundation, Cosmos accelerates three key areas for banks participating in the Swift pilot. The first is integration between core banking systems and digital ledgers, including EVM and Hyperledger-based environments, like Swift's ledger. It also accelerates interoperability across networks and counterparties and, in the future, will support engagement with correspondent banks to enable broader participation.

Beyond payments, the Cosmos Tokenization Suite unlocks a broader set of use cases, such as real-time treasury management, instant cash sweeps, and programmable money flows.

Swift's ledger provides a secure orchestration layer that enables 24/7 cross-border payments using tokenized deposits, while keeping those deposits on banks' balance sheets and preserving the benefits of commercial bank money. With Cosmos, the tokenized deposits remain on the issuing bank's ledger; Swift's ledger securely orchestrates the movement of funds between participating institutions, including overnight and on weekends, before completing final settlement through existing systems.

Today, value equivalent to global GDP moves across the Swift network every two to three days, and 75% of transactions on Swift already reach the end bank within ten minutes. The addition of a blockchain-based ledger to Swift's infrastructure does not alter its role as a global financial messaging network. Final settlement continues through agreed mechanisms, including real-time gross settlement systems. This allows banks to extend payment availability beyond traditional operating hours while retaining their existing settlement arrangements.

The MVP of Swift's ledger was developed in collaboration with more than 40 financial institutions globally. Seventeen first-mover financial institutions are now putting it into practice, piloting tokenized deposit transactions across a range of use cases. The initiative builds on the Swift co-operative's global reach of more than 12,500 financial institutions and corporates across over 200 markets.
