A Legacy That Positions COSO for the Future
NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), today celebrates the exceptional leadership of Lucia M. Wind, whose tenure as COSO Chair and Executive Director marked a pivotal modernization of the organization and a significant expansion of its global influence.
Wind, COSO's first female Chair and Executive Director, led a comprehensive transformation that strengthened COSO's infrastructure, refreshed its digital presence, and established sustainable governance and operational processes. Her work advanced COSO's mission as a modern globally recognized internal control, risk, and governance leader.
"Lucia's vision and leadership ushered in a generational pivot for COSO," said Doug Prawitt, Lead Director of the COSO Board. "Her work modernizing our processes, strengthening our global presence, and expanding our thought leadership has set COSO on a new trajectory. We are deeply grateful for her service."
During her tenure, Wind broadened COSO's thought leadership portfolio, including overseeing development of COSO's first Corporate Governance Principles, a milestone that opened new avenues for future innovation. She increased COSO's publication cadence and reestablished its presence at major international conferences, representing COSO across regions including Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Europe, and countless venues across North America.
Leading COSO Into the AI Era
Wind also guided COSO's early work on internal control over artificial intelligence, an area of rapidly growing importance. At a time when organizations lacked clear direction, COSO became one of the first bodies to publish practical guidance on managing generative AI‑related risks and controls.
Throughout her service, Wind championed practical, usable guidance—emphasizing COSO's role in helping organizations apply concepts effectively. Her hands‑on approach as a former practitioner shaped COSO's methodology, global engagement, and future project pipeline.
"Lucia's impact will be felt for years to come," added Prawitt. "She helped COSO evolve at a critical moment and positioned us to lead on the issues that matter most to organizations today. We thank her for her contributions, dedication, and unwavering commitment to COSO's mission."
