Wyoming-based climate-tech company secures its first CDR credit purchase for 2026 delivery

The sale marks Cowboy Clean Fuels' entry into the durable carbon removal market, adding CDR credit sales alongside the company's carbon-neutral RNG business.

A biomass carbon removal and storage pathway built on Wyoming's subsurface

Cowboy Clean Fuels operates a biomass carbon removal and storage (BiCRS) pathway in Wyoming's Powder River Basin. Agricultural processing residues are injected into depleted coalbed methane reservoirs, where indigenous microorganisms anaerobically digest the biomass, generating renewable natural gas while carbon dioxide is permanently absorbed onto the coal surfaces. Carbon removal is quantified under the company's patented BiCRS+RNG methodology, developed to ISO 14064-2:2019, with permanence of more than 100 years.

Cowboy Clean Fuels' projects are certified under the Absolute Carbon Standard, developed by Absolute Climate, with credits issued through the C-Capsule registry operated by Evident, part of Xpansiv. Climate Vault Solutions has independently assessed the company's Triangle Unit project following a multi-phase technical review.

The Powder River Basin's extensive coalbed methane infrastructure and unmineable seam inventory give the pathway a distinctive combination: durable geologic storage, renewable gas production, and a resource base measured in decades rather than project cycles. The purchases are part of Salesforce's pledge to contract USD 100 million in durable carbon removal by 2030.
