Craft Cannabis Takes Center Stage at the Summer Fair
Oregrown Sponsors Event Offering Samples to the Public
PORTLAND, Ore., July 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Summertime in Oregon means farmer's markets and street fairs, where locals and tourists flock to enjoy the bounty and variety of Oregon's craft foods and beverages. This Sunday, cannabis lovers will sample the best of Oregon's flowers, edibles and extracts from more than 40 local producers at the Oregon Cannabis Association's sold out Summer Fair in Portland.
"Cannabis is taking its rightful place alongside beer, wine and spirits as the newest jewel in Oregon's crown of craft industries," says Aviv Hadar, whose Bend company, Oregrown Industries, is the Summer Fair's headline sponsor. "We wanted to create a fun and friendly event where craft producers can share Oregon's world-class products with the public."
Demand for Oregon cannabis has driven $60 million in adult-use sales since January, according to state regulators. But current law does not allow medical marijuana dispensaries or recreational licensees to offer samples of cannabis products to the public. The Oregon Cannabis Association got around the problem by offering tickets to the Summer Fair at no cost.
Oregrown's Hadar says that in addition to free samples of craft cannabis products, visitors to the Summer Fair will enjoy a festive, block party atmosphere.
"Of course, Oregrown will have our famous party games on hand, including our seven foot prize wheel and cannabis trivia board, and a special photo booth we created for the event," Hadar said. "We can't wait to see everyone at the Summer Fair."
