Crystal Motor Express Drivers Choose Teamsters

LYNNFIELD, Mass., June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Drivers at Crystal Motor Express in Lynnfield, Mass., have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 42 in Lynn, Mass. The newly organized group consists of 55 drivers.

"The Teamsters is the marquee union for truck drivers. I was a Teamster before and other co-workers were in the past, as well, so it was pretty much a no-brainer to go with the Teamsters," said Joseph Caruso, a five-year Crystal Motor employee. "We are happy to have representation and the protection of a union, and we are looking forward to negotiating for better benefits, in particular, affordable health insurance."

In the face of a strong anti-union campaign, there was a cooperative effort between Local 42 and Joint Council 10. The sharing of information and strategy ensured that the company's misleading rhetoric was replaced with the facts and that the Teamster message was heard loud and clear, paving the way for this victory.

"We knew we had a fight ahead of us with this employer. This unit had started, but had to abandon previous organizing drives due to the company's anti-union tactics," said Roger Travers, Joint Council 10 organizer. "This time was different in that we utilized every available resource at our disposal."

Travers said that with the combined efforts of Local 42, Joint Council 10 and Teamsters International Vice President Sean O'Brien's office, the campaign neutralized the employer's tactics, leading to a "great victory."

"We welcome the newest Local 42 members and look forward to negotiating a strong Teamster contract for them that will provide the job security and working conditions that they deserve," said Bruce Bolduc, Local 42 Principal Officer.
