CSX Announces 2010 Chemical Safety Excellence Award Winners

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CSX Transportation today announced the 59 winners of its annual Chemical Safety Excellence Award (CSEA), which recognizes customers' commitment to the safe transportation of hazardous materials by rail through safe loading and maintenance of rail cars.

"At CSX, safety is a way of life, and this year's CSEA recipients have demonstrated their dedication to the best practices in chemical safety," said Clarence Gooden, CSX executive vice president and chief commercial officer. To qualify for the award, each winner shipped 600 or more railcars on CSX safely through 2010 with no releases attributed to loading or unloading processes. Improper loading/unloading or failure to fully secure rail cars during those processes can result in what are referred to as non-accidental releases. Shippers include companies from the chemicals, fertilizer, agriculture and metals merchandise commodity markets as well as from emerging markets.

The 17th Annual CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Awards ceremony in Charlotte, N.C., included remarks from Gooden; Dean Piacente, vice president-chemicals and fertilizer; Skip Elliott, vice president-public safety and environment; and others. CSX's senior management reviewed current safety initiatives and discussed advanced technology initiatives in operations and the environment.  

All attendees will be eligible for a chance to win a week of advanced rail emergency training with the experts of the CSX Hazardous Materials Team at the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Emergency Response Training Center in Pueblo, Colo., later this year.
