Dad Drives A Pickup To Pick Up The Kids, Says TrueCar's Dads' Top 10

Cars with lots of space head the list; 3 of top 6 are pickups

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- This Father's Day, a lot of dads will be at the controls of the barbecue grill, or maybe out on the golf course. But when they head to work on Monday, what will they drive? Most dads will hit the road in a large pickup truck, according to the TrueCar Dads' Top 10, based on 2012 data about cars purchased by fathers with children at home.

In 2012, three of the top six vehicles purchased by dads were large pickups, with the Ford F-150 (ranked #1), Dodge Ram 1500 (#3) and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (#6) making the Top 10 list of vehicles, which also included five models from Honda. All vehicles in the Dads' Top 10 are 2013 model year products.

"Whether they're heading to the soccer field, a playground or a campground, dads need to have the room to get the family and their gear where they're going," said Jesse Toprak, senior analyst for TrueCar. "It's no surprise large trucks are popular, and minivans were also a frequent choice for fathers with two or more kids in the family."

Hondas are also a hit with dads, including the Odyssey minivan (#2), Accord sedan (#4), Pilot sport utility vehicle (#7), Civic sedan (#8) and the CR-V midsize SUV (#10).

By segment, the TrueCar Dads' Top Ten included three large trucks, three midsize SUVs, two midsize cars, one minivan and one small car.
