Highlights commitments and progress toward creating sustainable, long-term value for animals, people and the planet
BOSTON, Oct. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Dechra, a global leader in veterinary specialty care, today released its 2026 Sustainability Report, outlining its progress and commitments to animals, people, communities and the planet. By delivering evidence-based sustainable innovation, reducing environmental impacts and creating positive, social outcomes for people and pets, Dechra is advancing animal health responsibly and sustainably.
"For Dechra, sustainability is about the long-term health of our business, planet and the animals we care for," said Jesper Nordengaard, Dechra CEO. "As a global animal health company, we have a responsibility to operate thoughtfully, from how we develop and manufacture our products, to how we support our people and communities. It's not separate from our strategy; it's part of how we create lasting value and make a positive difference for generations to come."
How Dechra is driving impact for animals and humans globally
The report centers on four interconnected principles in Dechra's Sustainability Strategy: Sustainable Innovation, Resilient Planet, Thriving People and Strong Communities.
As part of its commitment to Sustainable Innovation, in fiscal 2026 Dechra invested 9.6% of revenue globally in research and development (R&D) to support the development of evidence-based animal health solutions and used sustainable sources1 for more than 98% of paper-based product packaging. In building a Resilient Planet, Dechra has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 27% since its baseline year and recycled, reused or recovered 98% of waste2.
As part of its Thriving People initiative, Dechra offers Dechra Academy in 40 countries where employees accrued 33,785 hours of learning. In fostering Strong Communities, Dechra has donated £330,000 for community and charitable initiatives across 28 countries, awarded £45,000 in veterinary scholarships and logged 4,200 employee volunteer hours across 18 countries.
Dechra's strategy is rooted in four principles across its value chain:
- Sustainable Innovation: By integrating sustainability considerations into research, development and product stewardship, Dechra aims to deliver solutions that support animal wellbeing and advance animal health, while creating long-term value for customers, stakeholders and society.
- Resilient Planet: Through responsible resource management, climate action and environmental stewardship, Dechra utilizes sustainable practices across its product supply chain to reduce its environmental impact.
- Thriving People: By investing in the wellbeing, capability and long-term growth of its people, Dechra creates a safe, inclusive environment for its employees to thrive and for veterinary professionals to deliver the best outcomes for animals in their care.
- Strong Communities: Through partnerships, volunteering, charitable initiatives and responsible business processes, Dechra is focused on creating positive social value in the communities it operates.
"At Dechra, our commitment to sustainability is central to our strategy, shaping decisions across the business that help us build resilience, drive performance and deliver lasting value," said Christopher Tickner, Ph.D., Senior Director, Health, Safety and Sustainability. "As the challenges facing society continue to evolve, so too will our approach. Ultimately, it is those collective actions — large and small — that ensure our difference makes a difference."
What's Next in Dechra's Sustainability Journey
In the years ahead, Dechra plans to introduce nature metrics, expand efforts to strengthen the human-animal bond in communities around the world and reduce Scope 3 emissions from anesthetic gases. From product development to people and culture, Dechra plans to continue activating practices that drive sustainable results across the enterprise, while delivering near-term Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) targets across its value chain.
