Defending Champion Lake Nona Wins Tavistock Cup Again

ORLANDO, Fla., March 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Team Lake Nona celebrated their fourth straight Tavistock Cup victory and fifth overall win in the annual interclub series hosted at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club.

With a two-shot victory at -41, Team Lake Nona overtook Team Isleworth in the singles format to once again become the World Golf and Country Club Champion.

Isleworth, who entered the second round with a two-stroke lead, finished in second place at -39. Team Queenwood finished third at -31, and Albany was fourth with -26.

Retief Goosen and Ross Fisher helped stage Team Lake Nona's second-round comeback with a score of -5 (67). Team Isleworth's Robert Allenby, Team Albany's Ernie Els and Team Queenwood's Thomas Bjorn also finished 5-under par. The five shared the low medalist distinction for Day Two and earned the Payne Stewart Salver Award. The $350,000 award will be evenly split among the five players.

Team Isleworth's Sean O'Hair claimed the closest to the pin challenge on Hole # 4, Team Albany's Ernie Els on Hole # 6, Team Queenwood's Thomas Bjorn on Hole # 13 and Team Queenwood's Soren Kjeldsen on Hole # 17.

In its ninth year, the Tavistock Cup has generated more than $7 million for charity. Beneficiaries include various player charities as well as The First Tee of Lakeland, the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The UCF Foundation and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute.

The 2013 Tavistock Cup returns to Isleworth Golf & Country Club March 25 and 26.
