Diagnostic Imaging Covers Disaster Preparedness for Imaging Facilities
NORWALK, Conn., Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- PRNewswire/ -- UBM Medica US announces that Diagnostic Imaging, a leading online community for radiology and imaging professionals, explored disaster preparedness plans for imaging facilities.
Nearly a third of medical practices don't have emergency plans in place, although a vast majority think it's a strong possibility that a natural disaster could occur in their community within five years, according to data from the Medical Group Management Association.
Experts listed several steps to consider while developing a plan, including:
- Facility — Freestanding imaging centers should make sure emergency generators and data centers are in safe locations.
- Alternate work places — Identify an alternative work place, such as another imaging facility, so you can get back to work quickly.
- Administrative plans — Look at how to keep your organization solvent and get your bills sent out, as well as protecting your electronic health records and imaging data. Consider where the information is stored and whether you have proper backup.
Imaging facilities risk losing medical imaging data and practice continuity without a solid plan in place, experts say. Hurricane Sandy and other recent events have shown how a disaster can disrupt service.
