Digital Energy: LichtBlick Expands its International Approach for Distributed Energy Optimization

The German energy and IT company LichtBlick expands its international business for digital energy solutions and offers its cloud-based IT platform SchwarmDirigent^® (swarm maestro) worldwide.

'SchwarmDirigent^®' has been in operation since 2010 to integrate and orchestrate a swarm of more than 1,000 distributed energy resources (DER) including cogeneration, photovoltaics, wind, battery storage and electric vehicles.

With more than one million customers, LichtBlick is Germany's largest green energy retailer. In light of the increasing use of distributed energy resources, LichtBlick has developed the IT platform SchwarmDirigent^®. It enables customers to connect, analyze and optimize all sizes and types of DERs flexibly and according to individual needs. The application opportunities range from peak shifting and shaving, a wide range of energy market integration to grid balancing and microgrid management.

Beside the market leading position for DER optimization in Germany, LichtBlick has already initiated a range of international projects. The IT platform is used within an island solution in Vietnam, where reliable and self-sufficient energy supply is ensured by using wind and solar energy as well as battery storage to replace diesel generators. Within another project the IT platform is employed to manage photovoltaic systems and storage to provide self-sufficient supply in residential areas in Manila, Philippines. Furthermore, the company is expanding activities to other EU states, the United States and Oceania.
