WILMINGTON, Del., Aug. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Direct Energy®, the electric retail supplier exclusively contracted by the state of Delaware, celebrated its first anniversary serving Delawareans and its partnership with the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
To mark the momentous occasion, Direct Energy employees arrived at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware dressed in superhero capes and accompanied by several local legislators. Direct Energy prepared and served dinner and "lightning bolt" flavored ice cream and delivered a corporate gift from Direct Energy to show their support for families with seriously ill or injured children receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals. The team presented a $13,000 check to Pamela Cornforth, the President and CEO of the Ronald McDonald House, as part of an ongoing partnership where Direct Energy makes a cash donation for each Delaware resident who switches their energy supplier to Direct Energy.
Direct Energy is one of North America's largest competitive retail energy and energy services providers, offering a suite of innovative products and services that can help residential and business customers use less energy and ultimately save on their energy bills. It is estimated that residential customers may save on average $7 per month with Direct Energy's low fixed electricity prices, with savings up to 11 percent below Delmarva's current price to compare.1
As part of the program, Direct Energy provided the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware with an initial $10,000 charitable contribution in August 2016 and then pledged an additional $5 donation for each online customer enrollment and $2.50 for each offline customer enrollment throughout the life of the two-year program, totaling $23,000 to date. Almost 400,000 customers are eligible to participate in this program.
The donations will be used to sponsor a "Downstairs Family Room" in the house – in perpetuity.
"Our mission is to make a difference in people's lives," said PJ Popovic, Vice President of U.S. Energy at Direct Energy. "We hope this donation and the ones to come on behalf of our customers will make a difference in the lives of the children and families who come to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware seeking help and support."
"The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware is excited about the partnership with Direct Energy," said Pamela Cornforth, President of the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware. "This donation helps the House provide comfort and support to many families while they go through a difficult time in their lives."
The Delaware legislators in attendance at the event were: Rep. Helene Keeley and Sen. Jack Walsh.
