Disabled Veterans National Foundation Delivers Shipment of Clothing to Albany Stand Down Event

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (www.dvnf.org), a nonprofit veterans service organization that focuses on helping men and women who serve and return home wounded or sick after defending our safety and our freedom, recently sent a large shipment of clothing to a Veterans' Stand Down Event in Albany, NY.

The event was a chance for homeless and low-income veterans in New York to receive many important services such as medical care and case management, and to be given items such as food and clothing.

Through the organization's Wellness and Morale program, DVNF's role in the Stand Down was to send a large shipment of clothing for male and female veterans as well as any children of the veterans. More than 150 veterans were in attendance for the December event.

Jim Haggerty, President of the Eastern New York Homeless Coalition, was extremely grateful for this shipment, which totaled more than $270,000 in value. The items, which included jeans, hoodies, long-sleeve shirts, hats and gloves, were ideal for enduring the recent record-cold temperatures.

"There was no limit to the amount of items the veterans could choose from," Haggerty told DVNF. "We told all the veterans to take what they needed and to put everything to good use!"

DVNF's Wellness and Morale program is intended to help supply Stand Down events and veteran shelters with basic necessities such as food, water, clothing, health and hygiene supplies. Shipments will be sent all over the country throughout the year.
