Distinction of Quality for Dilon Diagnostics

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Dilon Diagnostics, a manufacturer and supplier of high-resolution molecular imaging systems, was recently named to the 2010 Quality Leadership 100, an annual listing by Quality Magazine. Quality recognizes companies where performance excellence is demonstrated to be consistent within the standard operations of the organization. The Quality distinction promotes awareness of performance excellence as part of an increasingly important element in global competiveness and continual improvement in the delivery of products and/or services. Within the last year Dilon accomplished several important quality milestones that made a positive and significant impact on its processes, organizational culture, product improvement initiatives and global expansion.

Dilon is a young company that manufactures and sells medical imaging equipment. Its cornerstone product is the Dilon 6800® Gamma Camera that enables the procedure of Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI). BSGI is a complementary diagnostic imaging procedure to mammography for early breast cancer detection.

Specific quality initiatives were set in motion March of 2008 by Dilon's newly appointed CEO, Mr. Robert Moussa. In the short span of 24 months, Dilon has achieved:

• Certification to the European Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC Annex 5 – this certification is more commonly recognized as the authorization to apply the "CE Mark" to medical devices intended to be registered and sold in the European Union and Switzerland.  
• Certification to the EN ISO 13485 – International Standards Organization that denotes Quality Management Systems for Medical Devices.

These accomplishments are the result of significant and sustained efforts by the entire company. As a result, Dilon has not only made great strides in productivity and customer satisfaction, but has also established product support across Europe and select Middle Eastern countries through Philips Medical, and through agreements with other distributors in Asia, Mexico and the Caribbean.

More than 800 manufacturers participating in the Quality Leadership 100 were rated on criteria such as scrap and rework as a percentage of sales, warranty costs as a percentage of sales, and contribution of quality to profitability and shareholder value. Companies were also evaluated on the number of quality programs in place; registration to various standards; percentage of employees to quality responsibilities; average number of hours monthly that employees receive quality training; and the role quality professionals play in the acquisition of test, measurement and/or inspection of tools, software and services.
