Distinguished Lab Scientist Edward Moses to Present at Chabot Future Friday Series
Speaking on Harnessing the Energy of the Sun to Meet Earth's Needs
OAKLAND, Calif., April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The popular speaker series Future Fridays continues with Edward Moses, Director of Fusion Science and Applications Research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory on April 18th at 6pm. Mr. Moses holds patents in laser technology, inertial fusion energy, and computational physics. His lecture, Building a Mini Sun to Save the Earth, focuses on harnessing the energy of the Sun and stars to meet Earth's needs.
Moses is leading efforts to explore ways to commercialize the power of lasers to provide environmentally friendly energy for our future. Using Laser Ignition Fusion Energy (LIFE) Moses is exploring a new type of laser fusion power plant that would produce no greenhouse gas emissions, operate continuously to meet demand, and produce shorter-lived and less hazardous radioactive byproducts than current power plants. He has been a leader of this technology at the National Ignition Facility, harnessing the world's most energetic laser system, and is responsible for laser technologies for homeland security, economic competitiveness, and laser fusion energy.
Moses is the second speaker in the 2014 season of the Center's well-known lecture series Future Fridays. The series hosts four to five speakers over the course of the calendar year. Engaging in high-level topics relating to astronomy, space exploration, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, the series showcases today's leading stake holders, visionaries, and innovators.

Dr. Carl Haber, Experimental Physicist, will visit the Center on May 9th. Dr. Haber will take the audience on a journey of sound. Listening to the earliest known sound recordings, he'll discuss how the process has changed throughout history, and what scientists are doing to restore our oldest relics.
Thomas Atchison, Founder & Chairman, Mavericks Civilian Space Foundation, is the featured speaker on October 17th. Atchison will discuss key opportunities to engage students and their communities to accomplish the goal of civilian space exploration through rocketry.
Wrapping up the 2014 series, will be Will Wright, renowned game designer & creator of Sim City, on November 14th. Wright will discuss his journey developing the lucrative Sim City virtual world game and his upcoming projects.
