Dr. Phillip Bryant Named Chief of the Division of Rehabilitation Medicine at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Phillip R. Bryant, D.O., joins the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as the first Chief of the newly created Division of Rehabilitation Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

As head of Rehabilitation Medicine, he will play a crucial role in advancing care for severely injured children, especially those facing long recoveries."

Dr. Bryant previously served as the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs of the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network in Allentown, Pa.  Dr. Bryant was also the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations for Good Shepherd Penn Partners and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. 

Since May 2010, Dr. Bryant has been providing clinical leadership consultation for the Rehabilitation Medicine and Rehabilitation Therapies Programs at Children's Hospital, through a contractual relationship with Good Shepherd. Dr. Bryant has special interests in pediatric musculoskeletal disorders, limb deficiencies, and neurorehabilitation, including neuromuscular disorders, stroke and cerebral palsy.  He also has an interest in leading edge assistive and rehabilitation technology.

Dr. Bryant has many relationships with the rehabilitation community in Southeastern Pennsylvania, having also served as Division Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Lehigh Valley Health Network and at Easton Hospital, and holds active staff physiatrist appointments at numerous local hospitals. 

Dr. Bryant received his bachelor's degree from Stanford University, and his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan.  He completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and his fellowship in pediatric rehabilitation at Children's National Medical Center, both in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Bryant began in his role at Children's Hospital on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011.
