As Dr. Pane noted, the terminology that describes various cosmetic surgical procedures has evolved over time to be more precise and exact. This is definitely the case with the recent question about liposculpture—as Dr. Pane explains, "liposculpture" is essentially a fancy way to say "liposuction."
While the two terms are quite similar, Dr. Pane explained in the new video and blog that there is a bit more to liposculpture; in the case of liposuction, the ideas is to simply remove unwanted fat from a specific area or areas of the body.
"With liposculpture, the objective is to remove a targeted amount of fat from a certain area, similar to the way a sculptor working in stone may remove precise amounts of rock in order to reveal the beautiful statue within," Dr. Pane noted, adding that this fat may or may not be placed elsewhere in the body to enhance certain areas, such as the breasts, buttocks or cheek area of the face, in lieu of synthetic implants.
The terms liposuction and liposculpture are so similar, Dr. Pane said many cosmetic surgeons will use them interchangeably. In the hands of a properly skilled professional like himself, liposculpture is a safe procedure that offers great results with a low rate of postoperative complications.
