Drilling Info, Inc. Acquires Digital Title Information Company to Enhance Its Services to Land Departments and Brokers
AUSTIN, Texas, July 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Drilling Info, Inc. today announced its acquisition of Grand Prairie, TX-based County Scans, the premier provider of deep, digitized U.S. mineral ownership data. The acquisition deepens and significantly enhances Drillinginfo's existing mineral leasing data and suite of analysis and management tools, further cementing its position as the industry leader in upstream business intelligence and analytics for the global E&P industry.
County Scans collects, digitizes and indexes courthouse records in key oil and gas producing counties across the U.S., and has detailed coverage in several important existing and emerging unconventional hydrocarbon plays. The company has been scanning original leasing records from county courthouses since 2000.
According to Drilling Info, Inc. CEO Allen Gilmer, "The addition of County Scans' information to Drillinginfo's Land Product Suite represents a natural evolution in the depth and value of our product offering to customers. Deep lease and ownership information is a critical component for decision-making in the Oil & Gas industry and, over the years, George Contos and his team at County Scans have developed the best processes in the industry for collecting this data. We are delighted to integrate County Scans' database into Drillinginfo's platform, and to help accelerate County Scans' rate of on-boarding this mission-critical information."
County Scans' offering is unique and valuable because it provides ownership data, in most cases, back to sovereignty. Combined with Drillinginfo's land activity data, Drillinginfo will offer the industry the most comprehensive land and leasing information in the U.S. Today County Scans has more than 40 counties digitized and indexed from sovereignty to the present. Additional counties are being added for other unconventional plays across the United States.
"Integrating County Scans' information into Drillinginfo's platform creates a game changing offering that will enhance the industry's ability to move quickly on land opportunities and to establish strategic positions in emerging plays," continued Allen Gilmer. "This data, in conjunction with Drillinginfo's suite of other granular oil and gas activity and performance data, is used by everyone from equity analysts, E&P companies, regulatory agencies, financial institutions, and mineral owners to do essential activities from quantifying the limits to corporate growth, identifying potential E&P acquisition candidates, leasing open or soon-to-expire acreage, perfecting title on drill site locations, identifying hidden 'open acreage' released by contract, to researching forgotten family minerals."
As part of the acquisition, George and James Contos, founders of County Scans will continue to oversee the company's operations. All of County Scans' employees have been retained and will become part of Drillinginfo's team.
