
DTE Energy Honored for Supplier Diversity Initiatives
DETROIT, Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- DTE Energy (NYSE: DTE) recently received a prestigious award recognizing its work in creating opportunities for minority-owned businesses.
Earlier this month, DTE Energy was recognized by the Michigan Minority Supplier Diversity Council as Corporation of the Year – Consumer Products in 2011, for its efforts to include certified minority suppliers in its procurement program, assisting in the development of minority suppliers, and for promoting supplier diversity within the company, as well as with its vendors and other businesses and organizations.
The company was the recipient of the award in 2010 and 2008 as well.
"DTE Energy firmly believes that supplier diversity is critical to the success of our economy, our company and the communities we serve," said Tony Tomczak, DTE Energy's director of purchasing. "We are honored that our work has again been recognized by the MMSDC."
DTE Energy has pledged to invest $250 million over the next five years to do business with Michigan-based suppliers, as part of the Pure Michigan Business Connect Initiative. Last year, DTE Energy spent more than $475 million with Michigan companies, including $81 million with companies headquartered in Detroit.
