A beloved tradition since 2021, Duke's has partnered with restaurants throughout the Southeast to highlight culinary creativity, while celebrating the iconic duo of mayonnaise and tomatoes. Participating restaurants will create signature dishes showcasing this classic pairing, whether it's a fresh take on the classic BLT, a tomato-inspired cocktail, or an innovative mayo-infused dessert. These special menu items will be featured throughout the 10-day duration of Hot Tomato Summer, from July 17-27. It's a fun opportunity for restaurants to connect with customers, attract new diners and engage their local community through this vibrant culinary experience.
"Hot Tomato Summer has become one of our favorite times of year. It's a celebration of creativity, community, and the wild, wonderful ways chefs bring tomatoes and Duke's together," says Rebecca Lupesco, Director of Marketing. "Every year, we're blown away by the unexpected – think mayo cocktails, tomato ice cream, and everything in between. With Virginia Beach joining the fun this year, we're excited to see even more culinary twists and local flavor on the table."
During the registration period, restaurants from the 7 participating cities can sign up to be a part of this 10-day event. Once approved, each restaurant will receive access to a personalized dashboard where they can update their restaurant information and menu items. After registration, participating restaurants will also receive Duke's Mayo x Hot Tomato Summer-themed merchandise and promotional materials to help spread the word.
"We love seeing how much this event grows each year," says Sarah DiPeppe, Duke's Digital Content Manager. "Many of our partners have been with us since the start and know the ins and outs of how it all goes. For first-time participants, the new dashboard will make it easier to input and gather information on each restaurant's specials, ensuring a smooth process as the event approaches."
"Duke's Hot Tomato Summer is my favorite time of the year," says Shuai Wang, Chef and Owner of Jackrabbit Filly and King BBQ in Charleston. Shuai is also a contestant on Bravo's Top Chef Season 22. "When registration opens it tells me that delicious ripe tomatoes are right around the corner, but also, it's the one time of the year I can unapologetically put an aggressive amount of mayo on a sandwich. I mean I do that all year round regardless."
