Durham Law Firm to Host Public Seminar for People Losing Their Land in 'Alston Avenue' and 'East End Connector' Projects

DURHAM, N.C., May 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The NC Eminent Domain Law Firm, a division of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, will host a public meeting for property owners affected by the Alston Avenue widening project and the East End Connector project that will connect US 70 and NC 147.

The firm encourages property owners who will be affected by these projects to attend their complimentary seminar at the Downtown Durham Marriott on Thursday, May 30 at 7 p.m.

According to the firm, both the Alston Avenue and East End Connector projects are in the "land acquisition stages" and property owners are likely to receive government offers soon – if they haven't already.

Both projects have received "pushback" from the community, due to the businesses that will be forced to close and the residents who will lose their homes.

The East End Connector project will affect approximately 150 properties and force 36 property owners to relocate – 21 homeowners and 15 businesses. Its budget is projected at $156 million.

Waterproofing business owner, Jim Lindsley, will lose a third of his property to the project and is concerned his offer from the Department of Transportation may not be fair, according to a report by WRAL.

"I don't have a problem with the greater good," said Lindsley. "My biggest concern is that they're not going to make an offer that will enable us to make the transition."

The $30 million Alston Avenue widening project was actually re-designed after the DOT received complaints about their plans to remove Los Primos Supermarket, the only grocery store in the neighborhood for about a mile.
