Edison has recently published a report, which provides an overview of the UK-listed trusts managed by Aberdeen Asset Management and the AberdeenSVG-managed Aberdeen Private Equity Fund. There are seven trusts investing in the Asian region, six trusts with a range of UK mandates and individual trusts addressing North American, Latin American, global and private equity markets. Across this broad range of funds, Aberdeen operates a team-based approach focusing on fundamental research, meeting management and taking a long view. Financials analysts, Andrew Mitchell and Martyn King, explore whether there is independent evidence to confirm that the investment process produces results in line with this approach.

The findings include the following points:

On average, the trusts have fewer holdings than peers, which tends to confirm the active stance taken by managers.

Portfolio turnover is lower than peers, in line with the long-term approach.

Although there are variations in performance, as expected, most of the trusts have recorded risk-adjusted performance above peer averages for most periods between one and five years.

The report includes two-page profiles of each of the trusts.

Fraser Thorne, Managing Director of Edison, said:

"As an award-winning investment research house, it seemed only right to take up coverage of a stable of trusts run by Aberdeen, the award-winning investment trust manager. Over the last three years, we have invested heavily in our investment trust team, and with four analysts and dedicated Investor Access support, we have grown our client list to more than 50 trusts and investment companies, making us one of the largest teams in the City. We continue to experience strong investor demand for our research, combined with investor meetings, and we look forward to broadening our coverage of investment trusts further."
