"Educators Unite Day" Shines Light On Teachers And Community Stakeholders As Change Agents
WASHINGTON, March 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC) announced today that Wednesday, May 6, 2015 is "Educators Unite Day." The one-day, focused initiative serves to heighten community awareness that teachers are change agents, along with parents and other educational stakeholders who motivate students to learn and achieve. The multi-pronged activities are planned to take place in schools and at other community locations during the annual observance of Teacher Appreciation Week scheduled this year May 4 – May 8, 2015.
"We know that teachers have to connect with their students and motivate them before learning and achievement truly occurs. That's why DTEC is working to engage the community beyond the classroom to advocate and actively support teachers' efforts to be the educational change agents that our children so desperately need. 'Educators Unite Day' signals that our students need all of us to be actively engaged," said Dr. Cruse Craig, DTEC Project Director.
Nationwide, highly visible "Educators Unite Day" events are being planned as one part of DTEC's effort to enhance teachers' confidence in their ability to inspire and lead predominantly at-risk students to academic success. Throughout the day, students, parents, teachers and community stakeholders will wear the signature tee-shirt imprinted with "Teacher Efficacy…Believing Is Achieving."
Teachers are encouraged to teach their students about the word "efficacy" and allow them to participate in poem and essay writing contests. Teachers and students can also share their experience on social media and post how the word "efficacy" directly affects them. Parents, local businesses, and members of community organizations are also being encouraged to wear the signature tee-shirt, post on social media using the event's hashtag #EducatorsUniteDay and creating their own acknowledgements of "Educators Unite Day."
The Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC) is a collaboration between The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST) funded by a matching grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The three-year campaign is comprised of a three-pronged strategy to unite educators and community stakeholders working to enhance teacher effectiveness that promotes learning and achievement among at-risk students. The campaign goal is to increase graduation rates.
