EHE International Joins Forces With Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance To Increase Awareness Of Rare Genetic Disease
Rockefeller Plaza Window Display Educates Public About Tuberous Sclerosis Complex
NEW YORK, May 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A window display at Rockefeller Plaza this month will help educate the general public about a devastating and rare genetic disease called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). The display, created by the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, briefly describes TSC and highlights the very first TSC Global Awareness Day, which occurs May 15. The window space at 10 Rockefeller Plaza, donated by EHE International, will house the display throughout May, National TSC Awareness Month.
TSC is a genetic disease that causes tumors to form in vital organs, primarily the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, liver, skin and lungs. It is also the leading genetic cause of both epilepsy and autism. Around 1 million people worldwide are known to have TSC, with approximately 50,000 in the United States.
"EHE International is happy to donate the window in Rockefeller Center for the month of May to the TS Alliance. Both organizations hope the display helps increase awareness of this devastating disease," said Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International.
"There is currently no cure for TSC," explained Kari Luther Rosbeck, TS Alliance President and CEO. "However, recent research discoveries and the approval of new drugs to treat the disease mean we are making strides to improve the lives of everyone touched by TSC. But much work remains, and we are grateful to EHE International for helping us tell our story."
