eMeter Recognizes IESO with 2011 Three Million Meter Milestone Award
IESO acknowledged for world's largest residential smart meter and time-of-use billing implementation; First meter data management platform to support more than three million residential power meters
SAN MATEO, Calif., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- eMeter Corporation, a leader in Smart Grid management software, today announced that the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), the body responsible for coordinating generation and transmission of power in the province of Ontario, is the recipient of eMeter's 2011 Three Million Meter Milestone Award.
eMeter announced the IESO's award at the 2011 eMeter Leadership Conference, taking place May 9-11, 2011 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The conference brings together industry leaders in Smart Meter data management to discuss current trends and best practices, share ideas and experiences, and connect with like-minded professionals.
eMeter has recognized the IESO for its use of eMeter's EnergyIP Meter Data Management platform to create the world's largest smart metering and time-of-use deployment. IESO coordinates 76 distinct, local energy distribution companies in leveraging eMeter's EnergyIP platform for smart meter data management and time-of-use billing of energy consumption. This effort currently supports more than three million residential smart meters with some 4,700,000 to be linked through eMeter EnergyIP upon enrollment completion.
"eMeter technology has been integral to us in building the meter data management and repository for over four and a half million smart meters. This vision empowers residents to better understand and manage electricity costs and usage that ultimately translates into a better environment," said Bill Limbrick, vice president organizational development and chief information officer at IESO. "We are thrilled to receive this award from eMeter for surpassing three million meters and look forward to working with eMeter to bring the remainder of the province on board."
The province's deployment of eMeter has seen them move rapidly to a more automated energy distribution system and smart meter infrastructure that enhances customer service and gives Ontario consumers more control over energy use.
"What the IESO has done to help establish the world's largest smart grid for millions of consumers in Ontario—with smart meters added daily—is truly remarkable," said Gary Bloom, chief executive officer at eMeter. "They have raised the bar for successful Smart Grid deployments around the world. For this reason, they are the clear winner for our 2011 eMeter Three Million Meter Milestone Award."
