Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board steps into an executive role to lead medical strategy, clinical research, and professional education as the biotech skincare brand enters its next phase of growth
IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Epicutis®, the professional skincare brand built on patented biotechnology from Signum Biosciences, today announced the appointment of James Y. Wang, MD, MBA, as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Wang has chaired the Epicutis Scientific Advisory Board since 2025. In his new role, he will lead the brand's medical and clinical strategy, guide its clinical research program, and expand scientific education for the physicians and aesthetic professionals who carry Epicutis.
Dr. Wang is board-certified in dermatology and dermatopathology, which gives him a view of skin that runs from the exam room to the microscope. He is the founder of Metropolis Dermatology, which has five locations across California and offers medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and an MBA from Harvard Business School, completed his dermatology residency at UCLA, and went on to advanced training in dermatopathology.
Epicutis is sold only through professional channels, including dermatology practices, medical spas, luxury hotel spas, and a growing network of wellness and longevity clinics. Its formulas are built around proprietary molecules discovered and developed by Signum Biosciences scientists. More than 15 years of peer-reviewed research supports these molecules, with studies published in journals including the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. As Signum advances a new generation of these molecules and Epicutis expands into new markets, Dr. Wang will help make sure every product and claim stays grounded in clinical evidence.
"When I started Epicutis, the idea was simple: let the science lead," said Maxwell Stock, Founder and CEO of Epicutis and Signum Biosciences. "Dr. Wang has been one of the strongest voices for that principle since he joined our advisory board. Bringing him in as Chief Medical Officer puts a practicing dermatologist at the center of how we develop products, run clinical studies, and support the professionals who recommend Epicutis to their patients. As we bring new technologies out of the lab and into more practices around the world, his judgment will help shape what comes next."
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Wang will evaluate emerging research, inform the design of new clinical studies, advise on product development, and lead education programs. These programs will help providers understand the biology behind Epicutis and how to use it alongside in-office procedures and prescription treatments.
"What drew me to Epicutis was the scientific rigor behind it," said Dr. Wang. "Most skincare starts with a trend and works backward. Epicutis starts with novel molecules and real skin biology, then builds the product around the evidence. That's the standard I hold in my own practice, and I'm excited to help bring that science to more providers and their patients."
